Thanks to those who responded to the facebook experiment. Because facebook just doesn’t appear to be the right format for us, work on a class blog is underway. Hopefully, more on that next month. Attached is a copy of the all-school reunion flier and a picture of the month. Chuckofthewoods.net has now been replaced by chuckofthewoods.blogspot.com
It has been good to hear from several of you this month!
Tom Smith says: “First reminder of the 11th annual Wadena High School men's party in St. Cloud on the 14th of April, which is the second Wednesday of the month. 4:00 at Michael's at the Best Western Americanna Hotel on Highway # 10. Dinner around 6:15.
Please pass the word to anyone you think may be interested in attending.” Please rsvp to Tom if you have any questions or plan to attend.
Carol Taggart of the all-school reunion committee says: “Next time you send out a newsletter, you could ask or suggest that some class mates consider putting a Float together - If it is nothing more than a wagon with chairs or benches for Class mates to sit on We are getting some nice responses. I think it will be fun.”
Ed. Note: Anyone interested in leading on this? Let me (Chuck) know and we can publicize it in our newsletter.
Kathy Newell has been up good work: Chuck – again, thanks for keeping us all informed. For next mailing: I returned last week/Feb 12 from a three week plus trip to Tanzania and Kenya to visit two primary schools that an organization called Friends of Africa Education, (I’m on the board) helps support – one in northern Tanzania and one in western Kenya. I also had the opportunity to meet a nine-year old student that I am sponsoring for her education. We also spent a week on safari. Even though this was my third time, the beauty of the land and animals never ceases to amaze me. And I’m reminded of how the world is shrinking – I even met a couple one evening at dinner in the Serengeti who knows my cousin’s son.
If any one is interested in sponsoring a student, please let me know – for $600 per year, the tuition, uniform, supplies are covered. I had the opportunity to visit my student’s home – a small two room hut, no running water, no electricity, no in-door plumbing, yet she loves school. The education of students such as Rita is critical in helping third world countries progress.
Ed Note: (Excellent! Thank you for all you do Kathy!)
Rosemary Schwartz Forsch reports: Just a note to let you know that I spoke with Jane Bradford Engle yesterday here in AZ. We have been here in Mesa, Az and I connected by phone with her yesterday She informed me that she would very much like to be on your Email list when you send out the monthly news letter. She had the info on the All school Reunion and had already made her plans with her sister Julie. They had already booked a room in Wadena. I have spoken with my brother Tom Schwartz and My sister Jan and we are hoping to attend as well if we can work out the plans for June. Summers are always so busy.
Thanks Chuck for keeping me informed on all the classmates. Look forward to your newsletter.
News from the Prairie
On February 13th the Dwight "Ike" Halliwill's and the Wayne Huffman's met in St. Cloud to exchange views. A nice time was had by all.
Pat Klein Thurk and Wayne Huffman attended the Legacy Dinner at St. John's Prep School in November and neither knew the other was there.
Wayne Huffman will join Charles Zosel on an ice fishing trip to Lake of the Woods at the end of February. Both are looking for a good time.
This is the England Prairie news reported by the Prairie Dog
Ed Note: (and a fish or two wouldn’t hurt either Prairie Dog.)
