Photo for Month of August 2010

The photo of the month depicts the Tall Ship Festival which took place in Duluth earlier in August.  Replicas of old time ships came from as far as Europe and the east coast.  One of the ships was a Hollywood star, The Bounty which appeared in the movie by that name as well as “Pirates of the Caribbean”.

August 2010 Class News

Hi Classmates:  I hope you had a good August and summer.   This is the time of year we enjoy hearing about your summer vacation!  What did you do?  Drop a line to Zaysforestry@yahoo.com and share with your classmates.
Now for the August Report.

Bob Danielson reports the identity of the butterfly on last month’s picture of the month was a Zerene Fritillary Butterfly.  He went on to say,“Thanks for the time u spend on the newsletter.  One of my daughters, Mary Beth Berg, has a butterfly release Party during August.  She had over 700   eggs or what ever u call them in a screen tent.  She will be putting pic s on facebook”.

Inez Silver Brown writes, “Not sure what happened to August.  Thanks for the "newsy" July letter. Was good to be able to read from classmates reports and know how things are for those living in the Wadena area..

All is well in North Carolina except that it is especially hot and humid.  We are lacking rain, so the fruit trees are not turning out big apples and peaches but they are still delicious.  Corn is wonderful too and we eat it almost everyday.

Again, thanks for what you do for all of us.  It is very special and we do appreciate it.

Charlie Lindberg sent out a flyer on a special Tornado Recovery Celebration held in Wadena on August 28 at the fairgrounds sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, The PJ, VFW, All School Reunion and others.  Your editor gave Charlie a call and he stated that he was at his childhood home in Wadena, now occupied by sister Julie, when the tornado struck.  He said they rode out the storm in the basement.  It wasn’t until they went outside to look around that the enormity of the storm damage became apparent.  Their home was on the very eastern cusp of the major damage.

The Prairie Dog reports that Ike Halliwell and wife departed for a trip to Europe on August 29.

See photos on both of these visits below.
Chuck Z had lunch with John Snee in Duluth in August.  An interesting twist there.  Our waiter on Angie’s patio was a UMD student who was originally from Wadena.
Chuck and Eve also enjoyed a camping trip to Minnesota where they joined the Wayne and Carol Huffman for the annual Fisherama and World Bolo Golf Tourney.
Page down for photos on both of these visits.

As of August 5, $12,045 has been donated for trees for Wadena.  You can donate at this website: www.treesforwadena.com
